Croatia Records Tourism Revenue as Visitor Spending Reaches New High

Croatia’s tourism industry is continuing to break financial records, even as travellers become more selective about how they spend their money.

Foreign visitors generated approximately €4.59 billion in tourism revenue during the first half of 2026, according to data from the Croatian National Bank. That represents an increase of almost 5% compared with the same period in 2025, with €212.4 million more entering the Croatian tourism economy.

The results are particularly notable because Croatia’s growth is not being driven solely by a surge in international visitor numbers. Domestic tourism has also strengthened. During the first six months of the year, Croatia recorded a record 1.5 million domestic arrivals and 4.2 million overnight stays, representing increases of 7% and 6% respectively.

The wider summer figures have reinforced the positive picture. Croatia recorded 17.5 million tourist arrivals and 90.5 million overnight stays between January and August, both up around 1% from the previous year. August was particularly significant, becoming the first month in which the country recorded more than five million tourist arrivals.

However, the figures also reveal a changing travel market. Croatian tourism officials have noted that visitors are increasingly taking shorter trips and paying closer attention to their budgets. This makes the rise in tourism revenue particularly important: the industry is generating more economic value without relying entirely on longer stays or dramatically higher visitor volumes.

For Croatia, the challenge now is maintaining that momentum while keeping the destination competitive. With the country already attracting millions of visitors each year, future growth will increasingly depend on quality, spending per visitor, year-round tourism and stronger performance outside the busiest summer months.

The latest figures suggest Croatia is moving beyond simply attracting more tourists. Its tourism strategy is increasingly focused on getting greater value from every visitor.
