Etihad Moves Beyond Flights with Etihad Escapes

Etihad Airways is making a bigger play for travellers’ wallets by moving beyond air tickets and into the wider holiday-booking market. The airline has unveiled Etihad Escapes, a new travel platform designed to let customers arrange flights, hotels and eventually other parts of their trips through the Etihad ecosystem.

Set to launch in October 2026, Etihad Escapes will initially allow passengers with an Etihad flight booking to add hotel accommodation directly through the airline’s website. The platform is expected to expand through 2027, eventually allowing travellers to search for hotels independently and combine accommodation with flights in a single booking experience.

The move is significant because Etihad is positioning itself not simply as an airline, but as a broader travel platform. The company plans to integrate the service with its mobile app and Etihad Guest loyalty programme, while adding more travel experiences and ancillary services.

Etihad is working with Expedia Group B2B to provide hotel inventory, while Juniper Travel Technology supports the platform’s technology infrastructure. Miral Destinations is also joining as a launch partner to connect travellers with leisure experiences in Abu Dhabi.

For Etihad, the strategy creates opportunities to capture more spending beyond the flight while strengthening Abu Dhabi’s position as a tourism destination. It also places the airline closer to the growing group of carriers competing to control more of the customer’s entire travel journey.
